City walk through Venlo with beer tasting
There are many hidden treasures in Venlo: works of art with an interesting history, buildings with a fascinating past and cosy cafés. During a city walk, a guide will take you along the historical and cultural sites of the centre of Venlo. To round off the tour, you can take part in a so-called HighBeer tasting at Brouwersplaats Speciality Beer Café. This cosy café is located in the centre of Venlo, on the Parade – this lively alleyway separates the two districts Kloosterkwartier and Rosariumbuurt. Until the end of the 18th century, a stream (een beekje) ran through part of this street, after which it was named: Beick or Groote Beeck. In 1794, soldiers marched in a parade along the Groote Beeck to the town hall and after that, the street’s present name Parade was created. The building at Parade no.5 is now Café Brouwersplaats. It actually consists of two houses built in 1888 and 1915. The façade of the building is decorated with ornaments in so-called neo-Renaissance style. It also has features of Baroque architecture with Art Nouveau elements. Until the end of the last century, it served as a tax office.
At this cosy café you can enjoy delicious beers, small dishes and above all the Limburg hospitality. When the sun is shining, you can even enjoy it on the terrace in front of the building, from where you have a beautiful view over the Parade. But the interior also offers a nice atmosphere, just like the hidden backyard of the café.
The High Beer consists of four speciality beers in a tasting glass and you can try four delicious matching snacks. The snacks are seasonal (just like the beers) and vary from savoury to sweet.
